In the photo at the bottom, Fairfield's Centennial Celebration, held Oct. 4-6, 1939, included a parade of local bands and a number of visiting high school bands. The bands, shown above, joined for a mass concert on the Jefferson County Courthouse lawn. The bands were under the direction of Karl KING and performed musical numbers KING had composed.

A log house on the northeast corner of the square facing west on Broadway Avenue, was packed with relics, antiques and curiosities. Admission was charged due to the cost of the building and the equipment needed to make the display complete.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy PARKIN in their old-fashioned attire posed a half block west of the square on the north side of Burlington Avenue. Many Fairfield residents and visitors dressed in period clothing for the celebration. The celebration included: several parades with different themes; concerts; contests like husband-calling, hog-calling, rolling-pin throwing, slipper-kicking, harnessing and hitching, whiskers, barefoot race, boxing and wrestling matches, football games and more; historical sketches; a President's Dinner; a Centennial Ball; square dancing; a carnival; and much more.
