Howard and Irma SKAGGS of Birmingham will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary during an open house hosted by their family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Birmingham City Park Shelter.
Howard SKAGGS and Irma NELSON were married July 4, 1944, at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. A. Keast officiating. The maid of honor was Wilda SKAGGS and the best man was Bud BOOTH, both of whom are now deceased.
Mr. SKAGGS was a long-time farmer and worked at Rockwell Standard for 23 years. Mrs. SKAGGS has been an Avon "lady" for 50 years.
They have five children: Linda DAVIDSON of Birmingham; Sharon Diane SKAGGS, deceased; Marsha McDONALD of Norwalk; Janet MANNING and husband Dave of West Des Moines; and Randy SKAGGS and wife Melinda of Danville, Ill. They also have 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
The couple requests no gifts, but cards are welcome and can be mailed to 10492 Jasmine Ave., Birmingham 52535.
Bring lawn chairs to stay and visit with the couple.
