Happy birthday

Genevieve DRISH, center, received birthday congratulations from Rep. Curt Hanson Tuesday at her home in Fairfield. Mrs. DRISH celebrated her 106th birthday Sept. 17. She is one of only 200 Iowans who have celebrated a centenarian birthday in 2013. According to the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs, Mrs. DRISH is the oldest-known resident of Jefferson County. Information about the centenarian registry is available by calling the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs in Des Moines at 515-725-3333. Mrs. DRISH has held that distinction since Feb. 6, 2012, after the death of Wilma LEWIS (sic - Wilma LAWSON).

Note: Wilma LAWSON was 104 years old when she died; Genevieve is not yet the oldest resident ever recorded in the county, but she's well on her way. The oldest was Madge WESTFALL who died in 2009, followed by Charles MANNHARDT who died in 1981; both were 108 years old.
