"Lockridge Herald"
November 5, 1909.

LOCAL NEWS BRIEFS: Harve GRANT, an old soldier of the Civil War, who has lived alone in this vicinity for several years, was taken to the Soldiers' Home at Marshalltown last Friday. His friends have urged him to take this step for some time, and it is said his daughter offered him a good home with her, but he preferred to live by himself in his simple home until pressed by old age and infirmities he consented to go to the Soldiers' Home where he will be well cared for. He was a member of Co. K, 19th Iowa Infantry, was a good soldier and deserves good care his remaining days.

Transcribed by Doris Challis from Jefferson County Records, Vol. 6. Not related to the subject.

Admin. note: Harvey died the following June in Mt. Pleasant, IA, and is buried in Lockridge Cemetery.
