Page 1, Column 4Nelson STAFFORD, wife, and Mrs. Will COURTNEY and youngest son, came in from Nebraska last Sabbath afternoon. They came through with a team, camping out at night. They were raised in Walnut township. Mrs. STAFFORD's maiden name was Mary BENSE and Mrs. COURTNEY's Luella PHEASANT.... Nelson was a member of Co. K, 7th Iowa. At Ft. Donelson he was hit in the left leg by a rebel bullet and he still carries it there. We had quite a nice visit with him and heard from many of the Jefferson County people who left here when he did, some going before. Jacob KNERR, Will COURTNEY, Samuel PHEASANT, Lee McGAW, Jas. D. EDWARDS, the CARLSONs, and Amon STEVER's widow are still living there, and also A.W. JAY and many others who went from the county to Polk County, Nebr....
