Notes found in "Jefferson County Records"
by Mary & Orville Prill
Volume 2, Page 296

Jacob H. BLACK was son of Samuel and Catharine (RIDER) BLACK. See pp. 452-453, Vol. II, Fulton's "History of Jefferson County," also Census of 1850, Polk Twp., Jefferson Co.

Jacob H. BLACK married Sally McREYNOLDS. They had a son, William E. BLACK, b. 17 May 1856 in Polk Township, and a daughter who married Levi A. HARRISON. William E. BLACK married, December 5, 1878, Miss Rachel A. SUTTON, and they had a daughter Bessie who married Aurel SPRY of Keokuk County.

1850 Census Polk Township, Jefferson County, Iowa

SAM'L BLACK, age 60, born Penn., occupation Farmer
Catherine, age 58, born Va.
Samuel A., age 18, born O.
Jacob H., age 17, born O.
Adam P., age 14, born In (?)

Samuel and Catharine (RIDER) BLACK must have had at least one more son, because in the article in Fulton's "History", William E. BLACK mentioned an uncle William BLACK having served in the Mexican War.
