THE PASSING OF AN OLD MILL AND TOWN.

A little ad in the last two issues of the "Enterprise" indicates that the time may soon come when the last of the old Skunk river grist mills will be gone, the passing of the Merrimac mill. After several generations during which the mill was one of the most important points on Skunk River, the time came when it could no longer be operated profitably and for the past twenty years or more its wheels have stood idle, while the dam has been torn to pieces by the river's current. Years ago Merrimac was one of the thriving trading points of the inland country but with the passing of the mill the business has gradually drifted away from there and for the last five years their last store has been closed up. Pete SALZMAN, owner of the town, still has his fine home there, but only a few neighbors, the empty store buildings and the great mill buildings remain to recall the days of her glory.
