Keosauqua couple serves as inspiration

Dorothy and Kendall ROBERTS of Keosauqua celebrated both of their birthdays with family this past weekend, a reminder to the people close to them of their inspirational love story.

Mrs. ROBERTS suffered a stroke in 2003, paralyzing her left side. Her husband was by her side until she came home and was with her every day at home, cooking and helping with her physical therapy. Mr. ROBERTS then suffered a stroke himself in 2006, which also paralyzed his left side.

Regardless, they continue to live independently, taking care of one another at their home.

Granddaughter Summer LISK recalls her grandparents always said they were going to live at home until they were physically unable.

Mrs. ROBERTS keeps busy scrapbooking, quilting and writing letters with her husband assisting. The two can be found working together with their "good arms" early in the morning as Mr. ROBERTS has his half grapefruit for breakfast; it takes one to hold the grapefruit as the other cuts it.

Mrs. ROBERTS, now 86, and Mr. ROBERTS, 89, have 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Even so, "Grandma never forgets a birthday, anniversary or name," says LISK.

LISK adds, "We can't say enough about how amazing, inspiring, spiritual, supportive, loving and caring they are, but want them to know that they have set the bar high and have taught us that no matter what, true love and 'ever-after' never fails."
