"Fairfield Ledger Weekly", September 30, 1869

Another Fire --- The Fairfield Brewery Consumed.--- The cry of fire on Tuesday morning about 3 o’clock, brought the people from their beds to witness the destruction of Mr. George WEITZELL’s Brewery, located just south of town. Not a bucketfull of water was thrown on the flames. So rapidly did the flames spread that no one could get access to the wells, and in a short time the building was one sheet of fire.--- Nothing was saved except a few casks and kegs, that were of little account. The loss will fall severely upon Mr. WEITZELL, he having lost his dwelling house by fire only a few months ago. There is an insurance of $4,000 on the Brewery building, which will not cover the loss by two or three thousand dollars.
