"Fairfield Ledger Weekly", September 23, 1869

Iron Bridge at Pitkin’s.--- The Board of Supervisors of Jefferson county, at its late session, awarded a contract for building a bridge across Cedar creek at Pitkin’s ford, four and a half miles South of Fairfield, to our fellow citizen, Wm. LONG. The entire cost of the bridge will be $4.158 75. Mr. LONG has already commenced the erection of the bridge. It will be one of Z. KING’s wrought iron bridges, and will be built on iron piers. The span will be eighty-five feet, and the roadway sixteen feet. It is to be completed within 90 days, but Mr. LONG thinks he will have it up in 15 days less. These iron bridges are much used throughout the country, have given universal satisfaction, and the demand for them is constantly increasing. Mr. LONG is agent, and is prepared to fill all orders.
