"November 20, 1865, the death of Mrs. Eliza F. (DYER) JORDAN occurred. Owing to the rapid increase of population in the surrounding country, the little (Old Fairfield City) Cemetery was well filled up, and available lots were difficult to obtain. Capt. Clemant JORDAN, husband of Eliza, was unable to obtain such a lot as he desired, and her remains were deposited in the lot of his son-in-law, John H. WELLS. To this fact the people of Fairfield are indebted for the present beautiful burial ground known as FAIRFIELD EVERGREEN CEMETERY."....
In the "JORDAN Circle" in Evergreen we note tombstone inscribed: "Eliza, wife of Capt. Clemant JORDAN, Died Nov. 20, 1865, Aged 67." Her remains apparently were first interred on the East Half of Lot #209 and removed to Evergreen when it was opened in 1870.
