State of Iowa, County of Jefferson, ss:
On this first day of July 1856, personally appeared before the undersigned Thomas McCULLOCH, Judge of the County Court in and for the said county, having probate jurisdiction, David SHEWARD and Thomas SHEWARD, who being duly sworn, declare that they are sons of John SHEWARD, deceased.... said John SHEWARD died on the first day of April, 1856, at the house of the said David SHEWARD in the town of Fairfield, State of Iowa, at which time and place deponents were present. That deceased left no widow and that William H. SHEWARD is the only child of deceased who was on the third day of March, 1855, within the age of twenty-one years, that he arrived at the age of twenty-one on the second day of December, 1855, and that he now resides in Fairfield, Iowa. Deponents... have no interest in the Bounty Land this day applied for by the said William H.
