A NEW YEAR ENTERTAINMENT. Mrs. ELLIS WOODS entertained "her boys" of the ELLIS Hose Company at her residence in this city Saturday evening. Several other old friends were also present. Among them were C. W. CAGE, who came to Fairfield in 1839, Charles DAVID in 1840, and Capt. EVANS in 1842, Mrs. WOODS herself coming here in 1840. The house in which she now lives was built about that time. It was then the finest residence in the settlement, and it bids fair to stand for many years yet. Charles DAVID did his first work in Iowa on it, boarding with Mrs. WOODS and her husband and getting $20 a month for his services. Ed. ROTH, who was a 19th Iowa boy and spent a portion of the holiday week of 24 years ago with Mrs. WOODS on Dauphin Island in Mobile Bay, when she was interested in the work of the Sanitary Commission, was another guest, and so was Hon. M. A. McCOID, another of the lady's soldier boys. Refreshments were served the guests and an hour of two spent very pleasantly. In behalf of the hose boys Mr. McCOID presented the hostess with a handsome folding rocking chair, a tidy which bore the words, "Our Mother". The boys wore their new uniforms and presented a handsome appearance.
