The farm of Mr. and Mrs. Fred MILLER and family, located in Des Moines Township near Libertyville, lacks just one year of being owned by the same family for a full century. It is composed of 220 acres. The farm was settled by Mr. MILLER's grandfather, William MILLER, in 1847. They came to Iowa from Ohio. He purchased 320 acres of unimproved land and at once began to erect the necessary buildings for the family. He lived on the farm until his death in 1886 (1887). At that time the farm was taken over by his youngest son, Hiel D.. Through his hard work, he was able to acquire 780 acres which he divided among his children. He passed away in 1924 (1925). At his death, Fred Dean, a son, took over the farm and with his family still resides there. The present Mr. MILLER has lived on the place all his life except for a few months which he spent in Libertyville.
Mr. and Mrs. MILLER have four children. They are: Charlotte, teaching in Ottumwa; Bettye Mae, wife of Olen BARTHOLOW; Maxine, bookkeeper in Keosaqua; and Fred Dean, Jr., at home.
