William BALDING, whose two sons, Lewis and George, were two of the noblest young men our county ever knew.
George was drill-master for the recruits that went to the Second Iowa in Tennessee in 1864, and his good nature and patience won for him their good will, and he was chosen lieutenant.
Lewis, who had been a student in the Mt. Pleasant college, was a sergeant in the Third Cavalry, and in an engagement in Missouri was shot through the body and fills a soldier's grave...... H. Heaton
(Lewis G. BALDING enlisted in Co. F, 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Aug. 26, 1861 as Company Q.M. Sergeant; died of wounds Oct. 28, 1864, at Fort Leavenworth, Kans. Buried in National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Section D, grave 362.
