Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Coffin of Adel married here 66 years ago, Sept 3 1857. Mr. Coffin had gone to Dallas to find a location and had taken a claim there. He returned here for his bride, who was Miss Luzena Shelley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Shelly of Richwoods, and the wedding took place at the pioneer home of the bride’s parents.....Mr. Coffin had come to Jefferson County from Indiana with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Coffin in 1846. Mrs. James M. Jones and Henry Coffin, both of Pleasant Plain, are his sister and brother. They still live near the farm which their father homesteaded.
