HENRY RUPP, of Lockridge Township, born 9 Aug. 1849 in Holmes County, Ohio, son of John and Lena (Bateman) Rupp. His parents were both natives of Germany, migrating to the U.S. in 1848, first settling in Ohio. In 1854 came to Jefferson County, Iowa; invested in 200 acres of government land in Lockridge Township; John Rupp passed away on his farm in May, 1893, while the mother died in April, 1890. HENRY RUPP, in 1877, at age 28, settled in Montgomery County, where he resided five years. In 1882 he disposed of his property and returning to Jefferson County bought the old homestead, 360 acres, one hundred of this being located in Henry County and the remainder in Lockridge Township.....He has been married twice. First wife was Josephine Vohries, married 1877, daughter of Daniel and Malinda (Austin) Vohries, natives of Ohio, who were among the early settlers of Jefferson County.....Children: 1-Hattie, married Earnest Rauscher, farmer of Lockridge Township; 2-Harlan E., druggist at Botha, Washington; 3-Harry, blacksmith at Lockridge; 4-Ida, married C. F. Bogner of Lockridge Township; 5-Earnest E., at home; 6-died in infancy. On the 8th of June, 1892 Mrs. Rupp passed away. In 1896 Mr. Rupp married the second time, Miss Lizzie Achenbach, daughter of Ludwig and Margaret Achenbach.....German Lutheran Church.
