Obituary:
Mrs. Pearl Darling Dies Sunday Following Stroke
Mrs. Pearl C. Edelhoven Darling, 52, of 123 North Third avenue West, died early Sunday morning at Skiff Memorial hospital after suffering a stroke at Banes café Saturday night where she worked as a waitress.
Mrs. Darling was sitting on a stool in the café kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when she suddenly toppled over. A doctor was called and she was taken to Skiff Memorial hospital by ambulance.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Toland funeral home conducted by Father T. J. McCann of the Sacred Heart church.
Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Darling had been a resident of Newton for 26 years. She was born in Dubuque Oct. 19, 1901, the daughter of John and Threas (sic) Astgen.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. John Astgen, Dubuque; two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Russell, Dubuque, and Mrs. Robert Ham, Newton; a sister, Mrs. Daniel McDonald, Dubuque; three brothers, Elmer Astgen, Waterloo; Emmett Astgen, Galena, Ill.; Julian Astgen, Dubuque; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Darling Buried in Services Today
Services were held this morning in the Toland funeral home for Mrs. Pearl Udelhoven Darling, 52, of 123 North Third avenue West, who died early Sunday after a heart attack.
Father T. J. McCann of the Sacred heart church conducted the services. Burial was in the Newton Union cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Heiden, Leo Udelhoven, Marvin Pickering, Marvin Ham, Harvey Mores, and Paul Wilson. In charge of flowers were Mrs. George Heiden and Mrs. Leo Udelhoven. Soloist was Dick McKibben with Mrs. Purdy at the organ.
