Elmer Hanawalt Dies Suddenly Thursday
Hanawalt, Elmer Eugene

Elmer Eugene Hanawalt, 82, life long resident of this community, died suddenly Thursday afternoon, October 20th about 1 0'Clock of a heart attack. He was walking to town from his home when he suffered the attack and died almost instantly.

He was born at Colfax, June 21, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Hanawalt. He received his education in the Blanford School east of this city. He was employed at the mines at Seevers when a young man, later turning to farming which continued to be his occupation until his retirement in 1953.

After his retirement he went to live in the home of his sister Mrs. Kathryn Good, where he continued to reside until his death. He was a member of the Colfax Christian Church. Mr. Hanawalt never married.

Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Good of Colfax and Mrs. John Dimon of Council Bluffs. Several nieces and nephews and many friends will also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, 2 half-sisters and a half brother.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 O'clock at the Colfax Christian Church. Rev. Necille Clayton officiated at the services. Burial was at the Slaughter Cemetery east of Colfax.

Leland Lester was soloist and Mrs. Lee Schmitt was at the organ. Pall bearers were Walter Beals, Boyd Parsons, John Rorabough, Rex Rorabough, Joe Stayner, and James Thomas.
