DIED
Hammond, William T.On Thursday, Feb. 22, 1877, Hugh Potter, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Hammond, aged eleven months and 18 days.
The little darling whose death is here recorded, was a very bright and intelligent child, and had bound its parents and friends to it by its happy disposition and playful nature in more than usually fond ties, and now its little form is gone forever from their earthly sight.
God, who lent the little one to the parents for a little while, now allows it back forever in his presence and thus draws the parents and grandparents to him by a new and endearing tie.
Hugh can never come to them again, but they can go to him. For nearly the whole of his short life we knew him and from the time he was able to sit at the table, we met him regularly, and he always was happy and had a smile for all. Now he is gone, his place is vacant, his playful voice silent, and we only have this to console us. "He doeth all things well."
His remains will be taken to Des Moines today for interment.
