The Newton Record Thursday, Newton, IA, May 26, 1898
Death of Mrs. Frank Colyar
Colyar, Martha E. (Bridges)

The sad news reached Newton Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Martha E. Colyar, wife of Frank Colyar, which occurred at her home west of Baxter Monday night, after a long and painful illness, which finally terminated in rheumatism of the heart.

Mrs. Colyar was a daughter of Green Bridges, and was born in this county. She would have been forty-six years of age next August. Twenty-seven years ago she united in marriage to Frank Colyar, and to them were born eight children, five of whom are living. Her only living sister is Mrs. J. M. Reynolds of this city. Her stepmother, Mrs. Green Bridges, and stepsisters and brothers, Mrs. W. E. Smith, Mrs. John Foreman and Messrs. Joe, Frank and Charlie Bridges all reside in this county. The relationship between Mrs. Colyar and her stepmother, as well as the entire family, was one of the most affectionate endearing nature.

Mrs. Colyar was a Christian woman, in the fullest sense, and a model wife and mother. Her pleasant manners and kind disposition hallowed the home, which her death has now filled with deepest sorrow. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. C. Baumgardner, in the Congregational Church at Baxter, yesterday at 10 o’clock a. m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bridges Cemetery beside her parents and other loved ones who have passed away before her.
