Paul J. Colyn PRAIRIE CITY — Paul J. Colyn, 84, of Prairie City died Monday, Feb. 4, at his daughter's home in Pella. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Poe and the Rev. Harvey Brink officiating. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements. Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

The son of John and Marjorie Jennings Colyn, he was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Monroe. He graduated from Monroe High School In 1935. On Sept. 28, 1940, he married Gladys Hargrove in Memphis, Mo. He was a farmer and was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Mr. Colyn was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church and enjoyed flying.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Larry Plate of Pella, a sister, Darlene Brouwer of Prairie City and a brother, Robert Colyn of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Services for Paul J. Colyn will be held Thursday, February 7, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist church. Pastors John Poe and Harvey Brink will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Visitation for Mr. Colyn will be on Wednesday, February 6 after noon at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Paul J. Colyn, age 84 of Prairie City, died Monday, February 4, 2002 at his daughters home in Pella. Paul J. Colyn was born on August 9, 1917 in Monroe, Iowa, the son of John and Marjorie (Jennings) Colyn. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1935. On September 28, 1940 he was united in marriage to Gladys Hargrove in Memphis, Missouri. Paul was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church. He as a farmer his entire life and enjoyed flying. Memorials may be donated to the Prairie City United Methodist Church, the Monroe American legion or Hospice of Jasper County. Paul is survived by a daughter, Patricia Plate and her husband Larry of Pella; a sister, Darlene Brouwer of Prairie City and a brother Robert Colyn of Monroe. His parents and wife in 1991 preceded him in death.
