Sylvia Ann Colwell Borts

Mingo (Special) -- Funeral rites for Mrs. Sylvia Borts, 77, former Jasper County resident who died Wednesday near Spencer, will be Monday at 1:30 pm at Ashton Chapel three and a half miles from Mingo.

Mrs. Borts and her family lived north of Mingo until about 25 years ago when they moved to Spencer. The family then went to California where her husband Ed Borts, died several years ago. Mrs. Borts then came back to Spencer to live with her son, Ed, at whose home she died.

Survivors include three sons, Ed and Hugh at Spencer and Otha in Los Angeles, several grandchildren and a number of neices and nephews. Her husband and a daughter, Mrs. George Akins, preceded her in death.

Sylvia Ann Borts Died Sept. 23rd

Sylvia Ann (Colwell) Borts was born March 17th, 1875 to Charles and Sarah Colwell in Mongo, Indiana and passed away September 23 at the Marcus Snyder hospital at Spirit Lake, Iowa, after two week illness.

Mrs. Borts came to Mingo, Iowa with her mother and two sisters at the age of seven after the death of her father and it was here that she grew to womanhood.

In 1895 she was united in marriage to Edward Borts whom preceded her in death. To this union four children were born, a daughter, Mrs. Mariam Akins passed away in 1924. Three sons survive, Edward of Milford, Hugh of Estherville and Othal of Corona, California.

Ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

She was baptised in the Methodist faith.
