Last night at nine o’clock, Taylor Slaughter, who resided two miles east of Colfax, died of uremic poisoning, after long months of suffering.

Mr. Slaughter was the son of Joseph Slaughter who died a few months ago. He was 50 years of age and a successful farmer. He had tried for some time to get relief but failed. He leaves a devoted wife and children to sustain the loss of a kind husband and father. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily Herald, Thursday, February 5, 1903

Taylor Slaughter, 54, years of age, who was born and raised in Jasper county, and has lived here all his days, passed away at his home in Mound Prairie township, last Wednesday evening after an illness that has been most painful and distressing and has extended over a period of more than eight months. He was a victim of Bright's disease, and leaves a wife and seven children.

The funeral will be from the residence, at 1:30 p.m. today, conducted by Rev. Poppiewell, and the interment will be at the Slaughter graveyard. ~ Colfax Clipper, February, 1903

Taylor Slaughter was born January 27, 1849, and died in 1903, in Mound Prairie Township.

In 1880 he married Maggie Waggoner.

Seven children; Melvin, James, Ether, Joe, Chester, Archie and Blanche.
