Miss Lydia Slagel was born in Randolph County, W. Va., August 17, 1835. She came with the family to this county in 1855 and they settled on a farm near Murphy, where the family home continued until about two and one half years ago when they moved to this city.
Miss Slagel had been in poor health for some time but seven weeks ago was taken down and she died yesterday a little after noon. She leaves in the home a brother and sister, Eli and “Betty” Slagel, both of whom are unmarried. Another brother lives in Illinois and two others are living in the west. A sister, Mrs. Martha Matheney of Granville, Iowa, was with her at the time of death.
Miss Slagel was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church at Hixson Grove. Her funeral will occur tomorrow morning at ten o’clock at the residence on East North Street, Rev. E. S. Brown conducting the services, after which interment will be at Hixson Grove.

Several of the old neighbors of Miss Lydia Slagel attended her funeral in Newton, February 25. Miss Slagel came with her parents, Jacob and Susannah Slagel from W.
