Simon T. Sager

COLFAX - Funeral services for Simon Thomas Sager, 95, of 817 N. 3rd Ave. E., a longtime resident of Colfax, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28 at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. John Mc Kinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in Ashton Chapel Cemetery north of Mingo.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday and family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sager died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Survivors are a son, James Harvey Sr. of Glendale; two daughters, Hazel Angeline Wickett of Newton and Violet Gulling of Colfax; 27 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sarah Mary, three brothers, four sisters, a son, two daughters, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

An Army veteran of World War I, Mr. Sager was a 50-year member of Jones-Willis American Legion Post in Colfax.

Mr. Sager was a plant guard at the Maytag Co. in Newton, prior to his retirement in 1961.

The son of William Henry and Susanna Thomas Sager, he was born January 17, 1896 in Pella.

He was married to Sarah Mary Teed June 15, 1918 at Collins. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1991
