COLFAX - Funeral services for Alfred Joseph Sprouse, 78, a resident of Colfax since 1949, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. James E. Robertson of Des Moines will conduct services and burial will be in Colfax Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Sprouse died Wednesday at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Survivors are two sons, Joe of Colfax and Tom of Ames; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five sisters, Myrtle Gravett of Moulton, Irene Yates of Centerville, Thelma Hedgecock of Udell, Dorothy Haig of Des Moines and Iona Starr of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Hazel, and two brothers.
Mr. Sprouse, a retired Maytag Co. employee, was a member of the UAW, local 997, Retirees Union.
The son of James and Lilly South Sprouse, he was born March 29, 1913 in West Grove.
He was married to Mary Hazel Hitchcock April 11, 1932.
He resided in Barnes City for a short time before moving to Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August, 1991
