Henry A. Troen

Henry A. Troen, 79, of 810 E. 12th St. S., a resident of Newton since early 1934, died of cancer Friday evening, March 17, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be conducted.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Lutheran Church may be left at the church or at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Dennis of Rt. 1, Newton; three daughters, Sandra (Mrs. Jack) Hafkey of Raleigh, N. C., Karen (Mrs. Delbert) Nicklaus of Geneseo, Ill., and Jo Ann Mills of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Adler, Magnar, Anton and Ingvald Troen, all of Norway; two sisters, Berit Harstad and Oddfried Troen, both of Norway; a niece and nephew in Newton; and three nieces and four nephews in Norway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lee in 1987, an infant granddaughter, and infant grandson and two brothers.

Mr. Troen was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Elks Lodge. He had served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star.

The son on Anton and Inga Marie Troen, he was born Dec. 16, 1909 in Ronsdalen, Norway, and was educated in Norwegian schools. He came to the United States in 1927.

He was married to Lenora “Lee” Kuehl Aug. 28, 1933 in Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Troen had farmed and been a self-employed trucker.
