Ruth C. Thomas, 82, of Rt. 2 Russell, formerly of Newton, died Sunday at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the El Camino Mortuary in San Diego.

Visitations will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton.

Survivors are a sister, Vera Mathes of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin.

Mrs. Thomas was an owner/operator of a beauty shop in Newton for more than 20 years.

She was born in Newton and attended schools here.

She is the daughter of Lowry N. and Jessie Palmer Mateer.
