Wilbur H. Snodgrass, 74, of Siesta Village, Box 90, Weslaco, Texas, 78596, a longtime former resident of Jasper County, died Monday, Aug. 28, at the James Balmer residence in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to a fund in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are three step-sons, James Balmer of Newton, Jack Balmer of Marietta, Ga., and Jerry Balmer of Cumming, Ga.; two step-granddaughters; and a brother, Ray Snodgrass of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred, March 12, 1986, a brother, Leonard, and a sister, Leah.

Mr. Snodgrass, a member of the United Methodist Church, was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He had been a farmer in Jasper County and a truck driver for Vic Klopping and from 1962 to 1978 he was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation in Newton.

The son of George Milo and Anna Louise Koeppen Snodgrass, he was born Aug. 22, 1915 in Osakis, Minn.

He was married to Mildred Ruth Swalwell Balmer Sept. 29, 1956 in Newton.

He moved to Texas in 1979.
