BAXTER - Lela (Mrs. Clarence) Smith, 92, a longtime resident of Rt. 2, Newton, died Sunday Evening, Feb. 19, at Colonial Manor in Baxter.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements which have not been completed.

Funeral services for Lela Mc Kibbin Smith, 92, of Rt. 2, Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Harold Den Hartog of Pella will conduct services. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery at Ira.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to a fund in Mrs. Smith's name will be accepted.

She died Sunday evening at the Colonial Manor in Baxter.

Survivors are her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Marjorie Smith of Monroe; three step-daughters, Evelyn Galladay of Orlando, Fla., Marjorie (Mrs. Glen) Fure of Kiester, Minn., and Lucille (Mrs. John) Kelly of Newton; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Elmer Trusler in 1938, a daughter, Wanda Eldredge, a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, was a member of the Metz Community Church, Sugar Grove Grange, Sugar Grove Ladies Club and the Farm Bureau.

The daughter of Ed and Teena Keeton Mc Kibbin, she was born June 8, 1896 in rural Jasper County and was graduated from Baxter Community High School.

She was married to Clarence E. Smith March 22, 1947 in Hiawatha, Kan.
