Burial Services Yesterday
of Mrs. Dinah Needham Whose Death Occured at Moline on Wednesday of Last WeekThe body of Mrs. Dinah Needham, who was a resident of this city since 1856 until three years ago, and whose death occurred at her late home in Moline last Wednesday afternoon, was brought to Newton yesterday and taken immediately to the cemetery. A brief burial service was conducted in the chapel by Elder Frank Russell, of Davenport, who accompanied the funeral party, and then the body was laid beside that of the husband whose death occurred two years ago next month.
Among those who accompanied the remains to Newton were Miss Anna Amos; Walter and Alfred Needham, of Moline, Ill; Frank Needham, wife and daughter, and Mrs. C. E. Ball, of Davenort; John Needham, of Rock Island; Charles S. Needham of Eldora and Thomas Lister of Colfax.
Mrs. Needham was born June 1, 1846, in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. She came to Newton, Iowa, with her parents, the James Listers, in 1856. In 1870 she was married to Barney Amos. Anna Amos, who was with her mother at the time of her death, was a child of the marriage.
Three years after this marriage Mr. Amos died, and in 1877 Mrs. Amos married Frank Needham, of this city. Of this union there were born three children, Frank A. Needham, whose home is in Davenport; John N. Needham,of rock Island, and Alfred, who made his home with his mother in Moline.
When deceased became the wife of Mr. Needham, he was the father of five children to whom she has always been a mother. These are: Walter Needham, who resided wit the family in Moline; Mrs. J. R. Newton, of Minindokat, Idaho; C. S. Needham, Eldon; Mrs. J. C. Smith, Kansas City' and Mrs. Al Parish of this city.
Three years ago Mrs. Needham removed with the family to Moline. Here Mr. Needham died about two years ago.
A week ago Sunday Mrs. Needham attended the morning church services and after dinner was talking with several members of the family, when they noticed that her head dropped over, and they thought she had gone to sleep in her chair. Going to her they found that she was not sleeping but that she had been stricken with apoplexy. She survived until Wednesday afternoon when she passed away.
The funeral services were held from the residence in Moline, Friday afternoon, conducted by Elder Frank Russell, of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints church, of which deceased was a member.
Mrs. Needham was well known in this community, as she came to Newton when but a child ten or eleven years of age, and had always made this her home until about three years ago, and many friends sympathize with the children who have lost a true, kind mother. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 14, 1907.
