SANFORD, Fla. - Wanda Estella Jones, 85, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Jasper County, died from complications of a stroke Tuesday, Aug. 19, in Florida.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. Cindy Jean Saul, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the New Tribes Mission Home in Sanford, Fla.

The daughter of Charles E. Jones and Alice A. Hesson Jones, she was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Hector Township, Minn. She graduated from the Mingo Senior High School in 1935 and from Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1944. She was a missionary to Paraguay with the New Tribes Missions of Sanford, Fla., for 36 years and retired in 1983. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Sanford, Fla.

Ms. Jones has been a resident of Mingo and Newton and also lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, California, Mexico and Paraguay and moved to Florida in 1983.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald E. and Ruth Jones and Harry E. and Kathryn Jones, all of Newton; two sisters-in-law, Ann Jones of Ottumwa and Twila Jones of Three Rivers, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, C. Eugene and Jerald E. Jones.
