Garth E. Shipley, 52, of Newton died Saturday, July 5, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor David Wendell of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Heritage Manor Care Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Clyde and Dorothy (Voorhees) Shipley, he was born April 18, 1951, in Des Moines. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1969 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973. He worked for the Vernon Company from 1979 to 2001, where he was the manager of outside lines. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Mr. Shipley was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Verne Talbot.
