June Cox, 94, of Newton, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, April 20, at Park Centre in Newton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Immediate cremation took place. Private family burial at Newton Union Cemetery will precede the memorial service. Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

A reception will be held at Park Centre following the memorial service. Memorials will be accepted to Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund or Newton Public Library.

The daughter of John W. and Katie Grace (Shuler) Slocum, she was born April 6, 1909, in Indianola, She graduated from Indianola High School and Simpson College, She taught English. On June 20, 1931, she married Donavan Cox in Indianola. She moved to Newton in 1946.

Mrs. Cox was a member of P.E.O, Chapter LC, T.T.T. Chapter CV, First United Methodist Church, past president of the Newton Library Board, Jasper County Republican Women, Pi Beta Phi and was a reading tutor at B. C. Berg and Woodrow Wilson elementary schools. She moved to Newton in 1946.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lois Cox of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Cox and Charles Murray; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.
