The funeral for J. W. Bateman, whose death occurred on Tuesday at his home in Des Moines, was held this afternoon.

Mr. Bateman was for a number of years a resident of this city and is remembered by the old residents. Mr. Bateman had been sick for about four months with a complication of diseases. He was in his seventy-seventh year. It was only a few weeks ago that relatives from Newton attended the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bateman in Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, one son and a daughter, all with him during his last illness.

Mrs. Fred Evans is a cousin of Mrs. Bateman.
