Rebecca Carroll Services Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Otto (Rebecca Jane) Carroll, 86, of Newton, and former resident of Colfax and Metz will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Gregory Caldwell, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Chapel until time of service.

Survivors are two sons, George of Folsom, Calif., and Dr. Wesley of Dearborn, Mich.; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, J. W. McWhirter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Robert McWhirter of Waterville, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and a brother.

Mrs. Carroll, who attended the Methodist Church, had been a teacher in the Jasper County schools for a number of years.

The daughter of John and Rebecca Watson [sic-Wilson] McWhirter, she was born Mar. 31, 1889 at Metz and was educated in Jasper County schools.

She was married to Otto Carroll Sept. 16, 1908 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, December 3, 1975.
