Rites To Be Saturday
Newton Oldster 83, Suffered Stroke Monday Morning; Ill 3 Days
Eli Woody, 83, an oldster of Jasper county, died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Redeen, with whom he had made his home since 1924. Mr. Woody suffered a stroke Monday morning.
Funeral services are to be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home with interment following in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Mr. Woody’s death succeeds that of his twin brother, Levi, by a month and a half. His brother died Feb. 1, 1941 at Long Beach, Calif. His wife precede him in death Dec. 3, 1938.
Wed At Otley
The son of James and Asenith Woody, he was born Dec. 19, 1857, southeast of Monroe in Marion county and has spent all his life in Iowa, mostly in Jasper county. He was wed Jan. 5, 1879, at Otley, Ia., to Mary F. Jarnagin.
To this union were born four daughters and a son, one daughter, Mrs. Edna Mullenberg dying in 1924.
Restaurant Business
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Woody lived in Monroe and Shelby county and came back to Jasper county in 1898. At that time he assisted in the Jarnagin restaurant locate in the Old Opera House block and later established his own restaurant where the Economy shoe store now stands. In the intervening years, he also was in the grocer business and when he retired in 1914, his restaurant was located where the Hotel Maytag now stands.
He was a member of the Three Quarter Century club of the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record, of the Yeoman lodge and the Christian church.
Surviving
Surviving are his three daughters and son, Mrs. Elsworth Foster of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. C. G. Graham of Kansas City, Mo., O. A. Woody of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. H. L. Redeen of Newton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Morgan Woody of Reasnor.
Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Graham of Kansas City, Mo., are to arrive in Newton Friday.

Eli Woody Rites Held Here Saturday
Final rites for Eli Woody, 83, were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home with interment following in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Rev. Ross Mills and Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser were in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. S. Trevethan and Mrs. Cloyd Fahrney, accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Jackson. They sang “Jesus Savior Pilot Me” and “Rock of Ages.”
Mrs. Carl Bish and Mrs. O. M. Parsons arranged the flowers.
Pallbearers were Roy Agar, Ralph Kenyon, Carl Bish, Alfred Ponder, E. C Smith and Ed Auten.
Born in 1857

He had spent most of his life in Jasper county and was wed Jan. 5, 1879, at Otley, Ia.,to Mary F. Jarnagin.
To this union were born four daughters and one son. One daughter, Mrs. Edna Muilenburg died in 1924. His wife preceded him in death Dec. 3, 1938. A twin brother, Levi, died Feb. 1, 1941.
In Restaurant
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Woody lived in Monroe and Shelby cunt and alter returned to Newton to go into the restaurant business.
He was a member of the Three Quarter Century Club of The Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record, of the Yeoman lodge and the Christian church.
