Prairie City (Special to The Daily News) – Levi Flavius Porter, 89, was born in Zanesville, O., Jan. 19, 1852, and died at his home in Guthrie Center, Jan. 26, 1941.
He moved with his parents to Jasper county as a youth and received his education in the rural schools of Jasper county and at the academy at Newton. In 1871 he went to Guthrie County to visit and remained to take up farming.
In 1877 he and Amelia Bele Herron were wed and to this union were born seven children. Following the death of his wife in 1928, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Mattie Kester, sister of his first wife.
Throughout his life, Mr. Porter was a farmer, teacher in rural schools, carpenter and contractor.
Surviving hare his widow, seven children: Mrs. L. W. Hoyt, Mrs. W. E. Hurlbut, Mrs. Clint Millhollin, all of Guthrie Center; Mrs. S. D. Hubbard of Fresno, Calif.; C. D. Porter, Jim Porter of Guthrie Center and A. E. Porter of St. Louis, Mo. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Lawrence McMurray of Liberty, Mo., and two great-grandchildren.
