H. Pett, 58, Dies Sunday
Herbert Pett, 58, a resident of Oskaloosa the past two years and formerly of Newton, died this __ing at 3:30 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Umbarger here in Newton.
Mr. Pett had been ill two weeks and was brought to Newton S____ morning. A complication of diseases caused his death.
Funeral services are to be conducted Thursday afternoon at __ o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home with interment in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Pett was born in Chatham county, Kent, England, December 1882 and when very small came to the United States. The family lived in Waterloo and in 1923 came to Jasper county.
He was wed to Myrtle Grace Knapp, June, 1905, and to this union were born two children, Mrs. Oscar Umbarger and Mrs. George Bennett of Newton. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and formerly belonged to the Modern Woodmen.
Prior to his death, he was employed by the Iowa Valve Company at Oskaloosa.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, and five grandchildren.

Conduct Pett Services Here
Funeral services for Herbert Pett, 58, a resident of Oskaloosa, but formerly of Newton, were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral home by Rev. George De Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
Factory workers of the Iowa Valve Company at Oskaloosa were pallbearers. Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Horace Brooks, accompanied by Mrs. Russell Gage, sang “Going Home” and “Rock of Ages.”
Mr. Pett was born in Chatham county, Kent, England, Dec. 5, 1882, and came to the United States when a small child. The family settled in Waterloo and in 1923 came to Newton.
He was united in marriage with Myrtle Grace Knapp, June, 1905, and to this union were born two children, who survive, Mrs. Oscar Umbarger and Mrs. George Bennett of Newton.
Mr. Pett was a member of the Presbyterian church an formerly belonged to the Modern Woodman.
The past two years he had been living in Oskaloosa where he was employed by the Iowa Valve Company.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren.
