C. H. Newby Dies Friday
Rites Moday for 82-Year-Old Lynnville Business Man
Lynnville, Ia. (Special to The Daily News) –Charles H. Newby, who had operated the tile factory at Lynnville the past 40 years, died at his home Friday evening at 11 o’clock. Death was due to old age and complications. He would have been 82 years old April 27. Mr. Newby had been in poor health all winter.
Funeral services are to be conducted Monday at the Friends church at 2 o’clock with burial in the Friends cemetery.
Born in Indiana
Mr. Newby was born at Raysville, Ind., and came to Jasper county from Poweshiek county in 1879. He came to Iowa in 1878 from Henry county, Ind.
Mr. Newby had many recollections of the days bone by and often told of seeing Lincoln’s funeral train go through Raysville, Ind., stopping there for water. A large crowd assembled and a huge log fire was built to keep the spectators warm.
Wed in 1883
He was wed to Alice Macy at Lynnville in 1882 and she died in 1892. Later he was wed to Alice Stafford at What Cheer, Ia., in 1902.
One of a family of nine children he has one brother, Judge Miles Newby of Onawa, Ia., and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Parker of Knightstown, Ind. Living.
Other surviving relatives are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Walton Hamilton of Chehalis, Wash., and Blanche at home and a son, Glen in Milwaukee, Wis.
He was a member of the Friends church and of the Three Quarter Century Club of the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record.
