McIntosh, Ella – 1854-1941

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella McIntosh, former Newton resident, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Newton at 3:30 o'clock. Dr. L. B. Logan, pastor, was in charge. Rev. Wilson Hyde, pastor of the Gatchet Memorial Methodist church in Des Moines, was in charge of the burial in the Newton Union cemetery.
Pallbearers were A. E. Hindorff, Roy Allen, Milton Addicks, George Pomeroy, Jay Lambert and Fred Meredith.
Flowers were arranged by Mrs. W. L. Anderson, Miss Edith Sudlow and Mrs. F. E. Wilson. Lydia and Mae Vieth, accompanied by Lois Hundling, sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden.”
Mrs. McIntosh was born Sept. 10, 1854, in a log cabin near Vandalia in Cass county, Mich. She died April 10, 1941, at the age of 86 years and seven months in Des Moines, Ia.
After the death of her father, her early childhood was spent with an aunt in Savannah, Mo., and at the age of 12 years she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church.
She was united in marriage with J. T. Sherman and to this union were born ten children, two preceding her in death. The late Mr. Sherman was postmaster in Newton for a number of years and was interested in the publishing business.
In the fall of 1900 she was joined in marriage to A. B. McIntosh who died in 1927.
Surviving are eight children, Sam of Des Moines, Will of Long Beach, Calif., Cleveland of Spokane, Wash., James of Fort Lee, N.J., Ransome of Newburg, Miss., Mrs. Lillie Magee and Mrs. Bertha Crandall of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Emma Johnson of Newton, Ia.
