Marilyn Trease (Koppin) Lester, 90, of Newton passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024 at Newton Union Cemetery. Marilyn, the daughter of George and Alice May (Scheel) Koppin, was born on March 18, 1933 in Newton, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and graduated from Newton High School. Marilyn was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She worked for Newton Community Schools, first at Washington Grade School as a ticket taker and 3rd cook, and later at Central Junior High School as a ticket taker. Following this, she worked for CGB printing and later Newton Daily News as an inserter.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Jerry L. Lester on January 12, 1968 at the Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazerene. Together, they spent 10,000+ hours of volunteer time at Lake Red Rock. They shared a love of camping and lived in the camper from spring till fall. They made many friends this way, who she enjoyed spending time with. Marilyn was also known for being a great mom and, in spite of being a single mother, she went to every Cub scout meeting and made a point to always be there for her kids. After her own children were grown up, she enjoyed seeing her grandkids and great-grandkids, as well as spending time with the family dogs, Misty and Molly. She was fond of planting flowers, pulling weeds, keeping her house clean, watching Cowboys and Indians, Pawnstars, Wheel of Fortune, and NASCAR.

Marilyn is survived by her son, William (Bill) Madoll of Newton; sister, Nancy (Walter) Williamson of Ladson, South Carolina; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sinthia Ann Madoll; and husband, Jerry L. Lester.
