Donnell, the son of Earl and Velma (Baker) Wilson, was born March 25, 1928, in Colfax. He attended high school before joining the United States Navy in which he served for 4 years as a Frogman during World War II. After returning home, he worked for the Maytag Company for many years as well as farmed. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 and the Moose Lodge.

On February 2, 1951, Donnell was united in marriage with Carol Jean McMahon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. Together they shared a love of travel and after retirement they lived on a sailboat in the Caribbean for many winters. Later, they purchased a home in Panama and wintered there. Even after Carol’s passing, Donnell continued the tradition and even went on a Caribbean cruise this past November. He was a traveler with a love for the ocean and water. Donnell also enjoyed farming, going to auctions, and tinkering on tractors. He was known for being a “putterer” and his belief that he could fix anything, even if that was not always true.

Donnell is survived by his children, Ed (Carolyn) Wilson and Barb (Carroll) Barr; grandchildren, Chad Barr, Heather (Chris) George, Ben (Nikki) Barr, Jessica (Mike) Rother, Kyle (Trista) Wilson, Trisha Wilson, Ryan (Jackie) Wilson, Kristen (Todd) Breuer, Kelly (Heang) Wilson, and Sally Wilson; his many great-grandchildren; and his sister, Delores Ely. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol (McMahon) Wilson; and his son, Daniel Wilson.
