Amanda Sue McConnell, 33, of Newton died on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 23, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials in Amanda’s name (checks made payable to Bonnie Cooper) may be left at the funeral home.

Amanda, the daughter of Gus Straight and Bonnie McConnell Cooper was born on April 24, 1990, in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and attended Newton schools. Amanda was very mechanically inclined and had worked as a machinist in area factories, including Jeldwin for several years. Outside of work, she loved to fix things and take on projects. Anything mechanical she would tackle. Amanda also like to go mushroom hunting and fishing, play frisbee golf, ride 4-wheelers, and go to the Figure 8 races. Most of all, Amanda loved to spend time with her family; grilling out, having a bonfire; or going to the pool.

Amanda is survived by her children, Siearra Woody and Landon Woody; significant other, Eli Woody of Newton; mother, Bonnie (Dave) Cooper of Newton; father, Gus (Laura) Straight of Newton; her sisters, Ericka McConnell and Lisa McConnell; nieces and nephews, Heyden Snider (Tai Taylor), Addison Snider, Tyr Straight, and Sebastian Straight; her uncles, Kevin, Chris, and Randy McConnell; her best friend, Katrina Finch, and her kids, Clayton, Brailynn, Jace, Adi, and Abel; and many cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; nephew, Jacob Fallon; and uncles, Jerry and Jeffrey McConnell.
