Mary Jane Hammer, 95, of 200 S. 8th Ave. E. died of heart failure Monday, Feb. 17, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Private family burial will be held at a later date at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls.

The family will greet friends and family immediately following the memorial service with a
coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in her name or to the donor's choice and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Andrew and Cora (Minard) Caruth, she was born Dec. 24, 1907, in Williams. She graduated from Williams High School and went to teacher's college and later to beauty school in Des Moines.

She grew up in the Williams area and lived in Guthrie Center from 1946 to 1975. In October 1931, she married Floyd Hoffman in Alden. She later married Charlie Hammer on Sept. 21, 1982, in Nashua.

She was a retired beautician and owned and operated a beauty shop in Guthrie Center. She attended and enjoyed bingo and other activities at the Jasper County Senior Citizens Center in Newton and was a member of Guthrie Center O.E.S. Chapter No. 109. She was a resident of Newton since 1975.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Hammer of Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Diane Hoffman of Newton; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Elaine Hammer of Baxter; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Tudy Caruth of Williams/ Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Margie Johnson of Republic, Wash. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, a brother and five sisters.
