SULLY - Virginia L. Earp, 77, of Sully died of viral encephalitis Friday, March 14, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Memorial services will be today at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Duane Skidmore of the Killduff United Methodist Church in Killduff officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Killduff United Methodist Church or to the Gideon Living Memorial Bible and Honor Plan. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Fred E. and Freda L. (Elscott) Compton, she was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Jasper County. She attended Sully schools. On Feb. 20, 1943, she married Thomas E. Earp in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was a homemaker and farm wife. Mrs. Earp was a member of the Killduff United Methodist Church and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and other children.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Pat Earp of Florence, Texas, and Wyatt and Cindy Earp of Osage Beach, Mo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Rorebeck of Ankeny, Diane Earp of Grinnell, Lenis and Arvin De Cook of Sully and Sheila and Harlan Van Wyhe of Sully; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and adopted daughter Marcia Leaming and her husband, Pat, of Reasnor; and son-in-law, Craig Gosselink and his wife, Pat of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rhonda, and a sister, Olga Rohrdanz.
