Mr. Seth Hammer, Whose removal to Mt. Pleasant we noticed week before last, died just one week after taken there. The body was brought home for interment, and funeral services held at the Quaker church, east of town, on last Saturday. Mr. Hammer was one of the oldest residents of the county, and held a high place in the estimation of all who knew him, being noted for his moral worth and high integrity. His death has cast a gloom of sadness over the community in which so many years of his life have been spent. His age wa about 70 years. He leaves a wife and a large family of children, most of whom are grown to manhood and womanhood to mourn the loss of an affectionate father. ~ The Journal, Newton, Iowa 24 March 1881.
