October 24, 1936 - September 8, 2023

Betty Jean Sloan, age 86 of Runnells, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Valley View Village in Des Moines surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Runnells Christian Church. Burial will take place at Lowman Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 11:00 - 1:00 pm the church. Memorials may be directed to Des Moines Animal Rescue League and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of Gerald and Esther (Galenback) Sanford, Betty was born on October 24, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa. She went to Runnells High School. On November 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Jack Leo Sloan in Des Moines. Betty worked with Jack on the farm. She loved her cows, even naming them. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed her trips to Prairie Meadows and going shopping with her best friend Norma. She was a member of the Runnells Christian Church. Betty was a mom to anybody and everybody that needed a mom.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Sharon (Bob) Schoonover; and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Smith; a great grandson, Liam James Smith and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jack; daughter, Debra Sue Goldsberry; sisters, Beverly Sanford, Jeanie Smith and a brother, Jerry Sanford.
