Dorothy J. Hill, 81, of Laurel, IA passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Laurel United Methodist Church in Laurel, IA. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery in rural Mingo, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care in Marshalltown. Online condolences may be sent to www.vogelfuneralhomes.com
Dorothy was born September 19, 1929, in Marshalltown, IA, the daughter of Solomon Andrew and Ruth (Davis) Smith. Dorothy graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Robert Hill October 2, 1949 in Iowa City. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading. Dorothy was a volunteer at the Laurel Library and a member of the Laurel American Legion Auxiliary.
Dorothy will be missed by her children: Jean (Loyd) Wills of Haysville, KS, Roy Hill of Newton, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Jane (Rod) Calkins of Marshalltown, and two sister-in-laws; Joan Smith-Legg of Marshalltown, and Doris McIntire of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, a daughter, Nancy, four brothers; Don, Robert, Bill, Jerry, sister, Betty and her parents.
